Bridge design is a potent example of the Sense of Place that human beings so frequently yearn for, where architectural form is experienced first-hand by the public. The distinctive image of our Merchant Square footbridge in its raised position is instantly memorable and, together, these complementary qualities of “the view from” and “the view of” illustrate how bridge design can contribute to a sense of place, forging connections, reinforcing identity and creating a sense of civic pride.

Hosted by Knight Architects and AKT II, bridges, design and identity will be the theme of debate and the evening will include a guided talk and bridge lift as well as drinks on arrival.
